The Port of Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AmmPower, a U.S. clean energy company and Green Marine partner, to explore the feasibility of producing green hydrogen for domestic and export markets.
With its access to a deep-draft canal, land site, and proximity to renewable energy, PCCA is a primary U.S. hub for exporting low-carbon energy to international markets.
AmmPower will collaborate with PCCA to study the feasibility of establishing a large green hydrogen fuel facility at the port. The goal is to have the facility produce, store and distribute hydrogen derivatives for use as a carbon-free fuel and hydrogen energy carrier.
Gary Benninger, AmmPower’s CEO, aims to have the new facility producing green fuel “for next generation ships as well as a medium to transport green energy on a global basis” by 2030.
Production capacity would gradually be expanded to ultimately produce 10 million tons of clean ammonia ((nitrogenous derivative of hydrogen)) yearly.
