The French maritime data specialist Opsealog has released a white paper calling for the greater sharing of data across supply chains to better help the maritime industry achieve its ambitious decarbonization and sustainability goals.
Opsealog's report highlights the untapped potential of data. It outlines how a more collaborative approach to digitization in the maritime sector would let organizations collectively share the benefits.
By democratizing their data, maritime organizations could quickly identify a weak link in their supply chain and then optimize their operations and improve their environmental performance.
While data capture, such as mandatory reporting under the International Maritime Organization's Fuel Data Collection System (FDCS) is often done on spreadsheets, Opsealog wants to see this data made accessible by putting in place the right architecture to facilitate data collection, sharing and analysis, as well as by standardizing data formats.
The white paper also notes the importance of sharing this data as part of the industry's transition to new fuels to measure consumption and emissions, along with the impact on other operational costs, including those related to the logistics of refueling these fuels.
