In June, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority presented its Blue Circle Awards for Environmental Stewardship to recognize environmental management excellence. The awardees achieve the highest level of participation in the port authority's EcoAction and EnergyAction programs.
Seven of the recipients are Green Marine participants. Congratulations to Fednav, Viking Ocean Cruises, BC Ferries, Seaspan ULC, North Arm Transportation, Tymac Launch Service, and SAAM Towage Canada.
Since 2007, the EcoAction program has recognized various fuel, technology and environmental management options that earn ship owners reduced rates on port dues. The environmental performance of certified Green Marine participants in reducing greenhouse gases and underwater noise qualifies ship owners for the EcoAction program.
This year, terminals and tenants were also recognized for their energy conservation and carbon reduction work, with the return of the awards’ Energy Action category. Winners all demonstrated leadership around sustainability, including initiatives such as converting fleets to electric vehicles, replacing lights with lower-energy LEDs and reducing the energy intensity of their operations.
Two recipients are Green Marine participants: GCT Global Container Terminals, Delta and Vancouver, and Seaspan Shipyards, North Vancouver.
