New participant, Pacific Pilotage Authority, advances safer, more sustainable navigation

August 10, 2026

Green Marine welcomes the Pacific Pilotage Authority's decision to expand its involvement in the environmental program by becoming a participant. Building on its previous role as a partner, this transition underscores the ship owner’s commitment to strengthening its sustainability and environmental performance efforts.

Pacific Pilotage Authority provides safe, reliable and efficient marine pilotage and related services in the coastal waters of British Columbia. Due to the complexity of its coastline, its jurisdiction spans the entire British Columbia coast and includes the Fraser River, making it the largest mandatory pilotage area in the world. Its unique coast-wide pilotage model enables it to provide service at all ports on the West Coast, as well as to cruise ships transiting the Inside Passage of British Columbia.

By enrolling in the Green Marine certification program, the Authority will advance its efforts toward cleaner, more sustainable operations within a structured and transparent framework. This membership will help the ship owner assess its environmental performance in key areas such as air emissions mitigation, aquatic invasive species prevention, oily discharge control, and underwater noise reduction.
