Fednav’s newest vessel, Federal Indiana, made its first visit to the Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor on October 28, marking a significant moment for the state’s maritime trade.
The Seawaymax vessel is designed to navigate the locks connecting the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. Owned by Canada’s largest bulk shipping company, Federal Indiana was named by Fednav to recognize the key role the State of Indiana plays in the company’s international shipping.
Fednav’s CEO Paul Pathy highlighted Federal Indiana’s 33% greater fuel efficiency as part of the company’s fleet modernization and decarbonization objectives, as well as a new design that facilitates carrying more cargo. The vessel arrived from Germany via Antwerp, Belgium, with more than 11,000 metric tons of tinplate coils for the canning industry, as well as steel coils for Arcelor Mittal.
Ports of Indiana CEO Jody Peacock praised the partnership with Fednav that enables the State of Indiana to make a substantial contribution to Great Lakes shipping.
