New air quality website launched by the Port of Hueneme

July 3, 2024

The Port of Hueneme has created a new website to relate air-quality information, including monitoring data in near real-time for South Oxnard, as part of the port’s commitment to environmental stewardship and transparency.

"By offering the local community access to a website available in both English and Spanish that monitors local air quality, the port will be able to ensure accessibility for our diverse community," says Celina Zacarias, the Oxnard Harbor Commission’s president.

Current and historical data, maps, a glossary of air quality terms, as well as informative videos about air-quality monitoring are featured on the site. The aim is to transform complex data into user-friendly formats to help the community to understand and potentially address some of these issues.

The new website is part of the port's broader efforts to measure and improve air quality, which include the Port of Hueneme’s Reducing Emissions, Supporting Health (PHRESH) plan in collaboration with the Ventura County Air Pollution Control. The port has also secured a $500,000 award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to expand its air quality monitoring network with four new stations across Ventura County.
