SAAM Towage has unveiled its 2030 Sustainability Strategy, emphasizing decarbonization and eco-conscious innovation. The goals established for 2030 include having one out of every 10 tugs in the company’s fleet powered by sustainable propulsion, and neutralizing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 65% compared to a 2021 baseline through carbon reduction and offsetting initiatives. The company also plans to certify all its operations under quality and environmental management standards.
In Canada, SAAM Towage in partnership with Neptune Terminals (another Green Marine participant) and Teck Resources Limited, deployed two electric tugboats that have zero emissions at the Port of Vancouver last April. Designed by Green Marine partner Robert Allan Ltd., the new tugs will eliminate an estimated 2,400 metric tons of GHG annually. They contributed to SAAM Towage reducing its carbon dioxide emission by 5,000 metric tons in 2024.
