Neoline and Port of Halifax chart same course towards decarbonization

June 23, 2026

The Neoliner Origin’s first Canadian call at the Port of Halifax marks the official launch of Neoline’s low-carbon transatlantic service to the Canadian market. This event, organized in collaboration with the Halifax Port Authority and its partners, illustrates the collaboration between a ship owner participating in Green Marine Europe and two certified Green Marine participants: the Port of Halifax and PSA Halifax.

The Neoliner Origin made its very first Canadian call on June 22nd, as part of its regular transatlantic rotation. It is the first time that a wind-powered roll-on/roll-off vessel has docked at a Canadian port, following the commercial launch of the line connecting Europe and North America.

Welcomed at the PIER, the innovation hub at the Port of Halifax, the Neoliner Origin was greeted by representatives of the Halifax Port Authority, PSA Halifax, and Montship, Neoline’s Canadian liner agent. Guests were able to watch the vessel’s passage along the Halifax waterfront, highlighted by a water cannon salute from the Canadian Coast Guard to underline the exceptional nature of its arrival.

The Neoliner Origin is a 136-metre (446-foot) roll-on/roll-off vessel primarily powered by wind to reduce fuel consumption and emissions compared with conventional ships. Its monthly service links Saint Nazaire (Montoir de Bretagne) with Baltimore, Halifax, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon, offering a lower-carbon transport option for shippers trading between Europe and North America.

The initial call on Halifax confirms the operational opening of Neoline’s service to the Canadian market and the integration of the port as a key link in this transatlantic corridor. The stated ambition is to maintain monthly calls in Halifax, with the possibility of increasing frequency as demand rises.

By embedding this call in the long term – through a monthly service aimed at customers ready to reduce the carbon footprint of their supply chains – Neoline and the Port of Halifax are helping to make North Atlantic corridors a testing ground and real-scale deployment platform for sail-powered shipping.
