Jotun hull cleaning system achieves verified performance milestone

A new independent verification by the DNV classification society has shown that Jotun’s Hull Skating Solutions (HSS) maintains clean hulls without measurable speed loss, delivering sustained performance under real operating conditions.

The verification combined in-water inspection samples from 33 vessels with performance monitoring data from 12 vessels operating under HSS. With an average of three and a half years of operational data, including a one-year reference period per ISO 19030, the assessment showed that the vessels remained effectively free of fouling and maintained their efficiency over time.

Designed to prevent fouling before it develops, HSS combines robotic inspection and cleaning with a dedicated high-performance coating and proactive monitoring. By maintaining a clean hull, the solution helps to reduce fuel costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and the spread of invasive species.

The findings from the independent verification highlight the connection between hull condition and environmental performance, supporting more sustainable, evidence-based decision-making across the industry.
