Innospec unveils its 2024 sustainability report

Following a year of investment in cleaner technologies, Innospec has published its 2024 sustainability report outlining its achievements in carbon reduction, renewable energy adoption, and product innovation. The report illustrates how sustainability is embedded throughout the company’s three business units and supported by ongoing research and technology investments.

In its report, Innospec addresses a wide range of environmental and sustainability priorities, with a particular focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding renewable electricity use, and improving water and waste management at all its facilities. The document also showcases ongoing work in developing more sustainable chemistries, advancing circular economy initiatives, such as recyclable packaging and resource reuse, and strengthening community partnerships in education and wellbeing.

Key environmental highlights include:

  • 8 million metric tons of CO2e avoided with marine, gasoline, and diesel additives.
  • 100% renewable electricity procured in all 14 manufacturing facilities, resulting in zero associated scope 2 emissions.
  • 13% decrease in total waste intensity compared to 2023.
  • 58% of all waste generated in 2024 was sent for recovery, recycling or reuse.
  • 16% less water used per metric ton of product in manufacturing processes since 2014.

Innospec’s sustainability work in 2024 reached beyond operational efficiency, encompassing community tree planting, beekeeping programs, carbon-neutral certifications, and innovative renewable fuel solutions. The company also expanded eco-friendly surfactants and invested in energy-saving projects through its global Resource Reduction Group. Looking ahead, Innospec has mapped out a decarbonization pathway targeting a 50% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 28% reduction in scope 3 emissions by 2034, ensuring its growth is aligned with long-term climate goals.
