Innospec Fuel Specialties earns class society endorsements for verified emission reductions

As shipping operators look for proven ways to improve energy efficiency and lower emissions, verified performance data has become essential.

Innospec Fuel Specialties recently earned endorsements from two respected class societies, ClassNK and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), for its marine fuel additive solutions.

These recognitions are based on third-party, data-driven verification of fuel efficiency improvements. Innospec collaborated with vessel operators equipped with high‑frequency data instruments to measure performance results, which were then independently reviewed for accuracy and reliability.

ClassNK endorsed Innospec’s Octamar Complete additive for heavy fuel oil (HSFO) and Octamar Ultra HF for very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO). ABS issued an endorsement for Ecopower, an additive formulated for marine gas oil (MGO), low‑sulphur diesel oil (LSDO), and biofuels.

The ABS verification was based on more than 11,000 data points from an engine using a B50 fuel blend, demonstrating a 2.54% improvement in specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC). This measurable gain translates into significant cost savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions—amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars and tens of thousands of tonnes of CO₂ annually for vessel operators.
