HPA’s Marilyn Baxter garners environmental Lifetime Achievement Award

April 30, 2018

A Lifetime Achievement Award will be given this June to Marilyn Baxter, who is the current environmental manager at the Hamilton Port Authority and former executive director of the Bay Area Restoration Council in Hamilton, Ontario. Hamilton’s Environmentalists of the Year Awards Committee announced this year’s recipients on April 20.

Marilyn Baxter has focused her efforts on a healthy Hamilton Harbour since 1993. In her role at the Port of Hamilton, she has worked to elevate the importance of the environment in the port authority’s decision-making and activities, as well as being actively involved in numerous projects and initiatives. Green Marine has significantly benefited from her insight and generous voluntary commitment during the past decade. She has been a valuable member and leader of several working groups and committees. For instance, she chaired the Great Lakes Advisory Committee during the inception of the Green Marine environmental certification program.

Retiring in June, she will be missed greatly by the entire Green Marine community. We congratulate her on this well-deserved award and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

Established in 1979, the Environmentalists of the Year awards recognize the dedicated efforts of Hamilton citizens, businesses and organizations to improve the environment in the community. The awards will be presented during a gala dinner on June 13.
