GREENTECH 2021 BECOMES 7TH CERTIFIED CARBON-NEUTRAL GREEN MARINE EVENT

July 21, 2021

The GreenTech 2021 conference held by Green Marine in a virtual format this past June 2 to 4 has received its Planetair certification as a carbon-neutral event. Without any delegate transportation, accommodations or food supplies, the virtual event had a 96% lower carbon footprint than the previous certified 2019 edition in terms of tonnes of CO2 emitted per attendee (i.e., 0.018 t/attendee instead of 0.45 t/attendee).

For the seventh year, Green Marine purchased high-quality carbon offset credits to neutralize the climate footprint of its annual conference. All factors were taken into account, including the virtual participation, land transportation by staff for organization, mailings, and plastic and paper required for all 419 attendees, resulting in a total of 7.7 tonnes of emitted CO2 compared to 72.1 tons in 2019.

This year’s carbon offset funds will go towards Planetair+Canada (Nature), which is dedicated to the conservation of natural habitats in Canada. By choosing this portfolio, exclusively consisting of credits related to Gold Standard-certified projects, Green Marine is also supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation in Canada since a contribution is also made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (a Green Marine supporter) for each tonne offset.

Here is the summary of GreenTech 2021 carbon footprint:

  Emission sources kg CO2e %
