Green Marine participants on both sides of the Atlantic are part of inaugural Anemos visit

October 8, 2024

Anemos, one of the cargo sailboats operated by TOWT (TransOceanic Wind Transport), a Green Marine Europe participant, docked at the Port of Quebec, a founding Green Marine participant in North America, in October. Anemos was greeted by QSL, another long-time Green Marine participant, as the sailboat had its cargo unloaded for Quebec roaster Café William.

The 81-metre (almost 266-foot) Anemos is part of TOWT’s vision to decarbonize maritime transport by relying primarily on wind propulsion. Equipped with large sails, including a main sail covering 700 square metres (7,534 square feet), Anemos presents an ecological alternative to traditional maritime shipping with its 1,000 metric-ton cargo capacity.

TOWT president Guillaume Le Grand says Anemos along with its sister ship Artemis are the first two of eight sail-powered cargo ships that TOWT aims to have in its fleet within three years.

For QSL, the collaboration reflects dedication to innovation and sustainability, with the Green Marine and Green Marine Europe participants demonstrating that operational excellence and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand for a greener future.
