Green Marine International and AIVP strengthen their collaboration

December 24, 2025

Green Marine International (GMI) and the World Association for Port Cities (AIVP) have formalized the renewal and expansion of a partnership initiated in 2018, during the AIVP World Conference Cities & Ports held in New York from 18 to 21 November 2025.

A new Memorandum of Understanding has been signed, with a clear objective: to amplify the impact of joint actions in support of more sustainable, more responsible ports that are better integrated into their territories.

A structuring cooperation

This updated protocol paves the way for closer collaboration on several strategic workstreams:

  • Adapting the Green Marine environmental program to European ports, through the Green Marine Europe certification, taking into account the continuously evolving European regulatory framework.
  • Exploring the integration of AIVP’s 2030 Agenda priorities into Green Marine International certifications, to strengthen coherence between environmental performance, social issues, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Identifying international synergies, in order to accelerate the dissemination of best practices and effectively support the members of both networks in their sustainability transition.

“We are moving toward a more global vision of port performance,” said David Bolduc, President and CEO of Green Marine International. “This expanded partnership with AIVP enables us to further align our efforts, reinforce the credibility of environmental initiatives, and support our members in increasingly demanding regulatory and territorial contexts.”

Connecting professional communities and strengthening networks

Beyond technical programs, GMI and AIVP are also deepening the networking dimension of their collaboration.

The two organizations commit to strengthening:

  • cross-promotion of their events,
  • reciprocal participation in their general assemblies,
  • the exchange of expertise, analysis, and resources,
  • mutual organizational-level membership.

The goal: to better structure exchanges between port authorities, operators, industrial stakeholders, and experts, in continuity with the work carried out by AIVP on the port-city relationship.

“Together with Green Marine International, we are acting at the heart of the port ecosystem,” emphasized Bruno Delsalle, Executive Director of AIVP. “This protocol strengthens our ability to support port authorities and their industrial partners in the concrete implementation of the AIVP 2030 Agenda commitments for the benefit of the sustainable development of the City Port territories.”

A renewed partnership through 2030

The protocol commits both organizations until 2030, with a joint review planned at that time to assess progress and define next steps.

By reinforcing their cooperation, GMI and AIVP reiterate a shared conviction:

the future of sustainable ports lies at the intersection of environmental ambition, societal priorities, and strengthened dialogue with territories and port-industry stakeholders.
