At the 2025 American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Annual Convention in Quebec City, the Lighthouse Awards illuminated exceptional achievements across the maritime industry, honouring initiatives that exemplify excellence in sustainability, innovation, and community engagement throughout North America, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Green Marine congratulates this year’s Environmental Award of Excellence recipients – both Green Marine participants – whose projects reflect the core values of environmental leadership and operational advancement championed by the certification program.
The Port of Pascagoula (Mississippi) earned top honours in the Small Port Category for its “Advancing Environmental Excellence through Green Marine Certification” initiative. The project highlights the port’s strategic integration of the Green Marine framework to measure, manage, and publicly report on its environmental performance. The port’s commitment to continuous improvement and transparency sets a strong example for smaller ports seeking to enhance their sustainability profile.
In the Large Port Category, the Port of Everett (Washington) was recognized for its “Decarbonization Analytics for Port Equipment (DAPE) Pilot Project for Port Efficiencies.” The innovative data-driven approach enables real-time monitoring of port equipment air emissions to optimize operations in support of decarbonization goals. The project demonstrates how environmental stewardship and technologies can dovetail to build more resilient ports.
A shared vision for sustainable ports
These awards underscore the increasing alignment between industry recognition and verifiable environmental performance. Green Marine commends both ports for their dedicated sustainability leadership. Their success stories exemplify how structured environmental programs and innovative thinking can drive meaningful change across the maritime sector.
