Thanks to a generous donation from Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), students in Georgian College’s marine programs, as well as cadets and working mariners, will have access to a state-of-the-art marine simulator at the Owen Sound Campus.
CSL, a division of the CSL Group, contributed $540,000 toward the new Advanced Integrated Simulator. Georgian College is now one of only a few institutions with this capability and has the only integrated Kongsberg engine/navigator simulator of its kind in Canada.
The company also made a substantial donation to Georgian College in 2008 to help build the simulators that have set the Owen Sound Campus and its marine programs apart from others. Since then, Georgian College has partnered with CSL on corporate training and research initiatives.
CSL has also played an integral role in supporting experiential learning by taking a large number of Georgian College’s cadets since the Marine Technology – Navigation and Marine Engineering Technology co-op programs began in Owen Sound, Ontario.
