Fednav, Groupe Somavrac, and Logistec joined the Port of Trois-Rivières on August 10th for a cleanup of the St. Lawrence River shoreline at the city’s Parc du Relais-Portuaire.
Some 50 volunteers gathered with the common goal of taking meaningful action to protect the St. Lawrence River and its surrounding natural areas. The day was part of Expédition Saint-Laurent 2026, a cleanup initiative led by Mission 1000 tonnes and Stratégies Saint-Laurent (a Green Marine supporter). Dedicated to removing waste from natural areas, the cleanup tour stopped in several riverside and coastal municipalities across Quebec throughout August.
The operation resulted in the removal of one metric ton of waste from the shoreline and its surrounding area. Volunteers recovered a considerable amount of plastic, as well as aluminum and steel items. Among the less common materials collected were polyethylene pipes, vinyl siding, and bricks. The materials collected reflect the broad range of waste that can accumulate in natural spaces and reinforce the value of continued cleanup and prevention initiatives.
The cleanup effort brought together the Port of Trois-Rivières, Fednav, Groupe Somavrac, and Logistec in a way that exemplifies the Green Marine community at its best. United by a shared concern for the St. Lawrence River, employees voluntarily dedicated their time and energy to protecting an environment that plays an essential role in their everyday operations and local communities.
