In early June the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) awarded 23 marine carriers and terminal operators with a Blue Circle Award for their respective voluntary efforts to conserve energy and reduce air emissions at the Port of Vancouver. The awards recognize industry partners that excel in environmental stewardship and attain the highest level of participation in the port authority’s EcoAction program. Four of the recipients are Green Marine participants. Congratulations to North Arm Transportation, Seaspan ULC, Saam Smit, and BC Ferries for their leadership in air emissions reduction.
The VFPA also handed out Blue Circle Awards under the Energy Action Initiative for those achieving specific energy conservation targets. One of the recipients was Neptune Terminals, another Green Marine certified participant. The Energy Action Initiative is a joint program with BC Hydro that helps terminal operators and other port tenants to enhance their energy conservation practices and save costs. The program’s goal is to protect the energy security of the increasingly busy port by reducing energy waste.
