Fednav Limited has announced the addition of six new vessels to its fleet. The environmentally advanced vessels will be built in Japan and will add substantial capacity to its Great Lakes fleet. Sharing the environmental characteristics of the previous six lakers ordered by Fednav, they will use 28% less fuel and produce 28% less emissions than vessels built 10 years ago that were then among the most efficient of their time. The new vessels will significantly contribute to Fednav’s goal to steadily reduce its fleet’s GHG emissions. The fuel-efficient engines will also reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by approximately 33%. The six additional vessels will be delivered between May and November 2015. They will be among the 27 new ships (including 14 lakers) added to Fednav’s fleet since January 1, 2012.
