Ducks Unlimited Canada has launched a provincial initiative aimed at enhancing wetland restoration and creation efforts across Quebec. Supported by $3.88 million in funding from the ministère de l’Environnement du Québec (a Green Marine supporter), the project seeks to increase the capacity of sector organizations, provide tools to citizens, and promote concrete, on-the-ground actions. This collaborative initiative contributes to the objective of a more resilient Quebec with greater biodiversity.
The initiative draws on a broad network of stakeholders, including citizens, researchers, municipalities, and field organizations. Its focus is on sharing knowledge, offering training, and fostering innovation. The organization plans to support the development of 20 projects for submission to various funding programs, while also promoting citizen engagement through an ambassador network.
To centralize information and simplify access to information, the organization has launched mobilisationcanards.ca (in French). The platform offers practical tools, educational resources, training opportunities, and the option to propose potential restoration sites. It also highlights ongoing initiatives and the people contributing to this mission.
The initiative is being delivered in collaboration with numerous scientific and community partners and is supported in particular by the Fonds bleu under the Plan national de l’eau. Partnerships with universities, the AGRCQ, and QuébecOiseaux help amplify the impact of these actions. By combining expertise with collective participation, Ducks Unlimited Canada and its partners are pursuing large-scale mobilization to enhance Québec’s ecological resilience.
