The Clean Canaveral, North America’s largest LNG bunker barge, completed its first barge-to-ship bunkering of a cargo vessel at Port Canaveral’s South Cargo Berth 4 on July 20th during the inaugural call of the Damia Desgagnés at the port.
After the asphalt/bitumen tanker’s cargo was discharged, JAX LNG, along with Polaris New Energy, handled the LNG refuelling with the close coordination of the Port of Canaveral, U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Canaveral, and Canaveral Fire Rescue to ensure everything was properly and safely conducted. The barge-to-ship operation transferred 400 cubic metres of LNG.
“We are especially excited to participate with Port Canaveral and JAX LNG in the Damia Desgagnés’ first barge-to-ship marine LNG bunkering,” says Julie Lambert, the president of Petro-Nav Inc., a Groupe Desgagnés subsidiary.
Desgagnés’ LNG-fueled fleet has expanded to five Canadian-flagged tankers, all operating in the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway system, the Canadian and U.S. East Coast, and the Canadian Arctic.
Port Canaveral has been at the forefront of LNG bunkering for cruise ships since 2021.
