A strategy analysis is being conducted by Groupe DDM on how labour requirements and training align in shipbuilding, maintenance and repair in Quebec. The Human Resources Sectorial Committee of the Maritime Industry (CSMOIM), a Green Marine supporter, and the Human Resources Sectorial Committee of Industrial Metal Manufacturing (PERFORM), which are both labour-recognized non-profit consultation organizations, commissioned the research.
The initiative seeks to identify labour market trends, anticipate recruitment challenges, and promote Quebec maritime economy’s sustainable growth. The study comes at a key moment, as renewed shipbuilding activity opens new economic opportunities requiring a highly qualified workforce.
The project is being funded by the Government of Quebec under the Intervention-Compétence program and supported by several partners from the maritime industry and economic development sectors, including Ocean Group, a Green Marine certified participant. The study’s training component draws on the expertise of several educational institutions, including the Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ), a Green Marine supporter.
Preliminary findings are expected in early 2026 and will help strengthen workforce planning and ensure the long-term vitality of Québec’s maritime industry.
