The ballast water treatment system (BWTS) installed aboard the CSL Americas has finalized all testing required to obtain the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) type approval. The system’s manufacturer, OceanSaver, carried out the testing along the West Coast, facing a range of demanding Pacific conditions. All the tests met USCG’s requirements.
Earlier shipboard testing was successfully completed aboard the CSL Sheila Ann bulk carrier in the summer of 2015. To fully meet the USCG type approval requirements, the OceanSaver system was continuously operated by the ship’s crew on the vessel’s trade route throughout the testing period. The route included the saline and brackish water ports of the San Francisco Bay, Tacoma, Washington, San Marco in Mexico, as well as various freshwater ports on the U.S. Pacific Coast, thereby challenging the system with a range of highly varying conditions without disrupting the vessel’s daily operation.
