CSL OWL SRI, a partnership between The CSL Group and Offshore Wind Logistics (OWL), has announced the launch of the MV Rock Star, the first of two purpose-built subsea rock installation vessels designed to support offshore renewable energy development. Combining operational efficiency with fuel flexibility, the vessel will help enable offshore wind developments while supporting lower-emission marine operations.
Built to transport and precisely place rock on the seabed, the MV Rock Star supports the construction and maintenance of offshore wind projects. The two vessels will be used for applications such as scour protection, and cable burial and protection.
The vessel can load up to 17,500 metric tons of rock, including larger armour rock, providing the capacity required for high-volume offshore installation work. With DP2 dynamic positioning and an active motion-compensated tremie pipe, it can place rock precisely at depths of up to 100 metres (328 feet).
With the ability to operate on marine gas oil (MGO) or methanol, the MV Rock Star has the flexibility to move toward zero-emission operations. Its design, therefore, combines features that support emissions reductions and the deployment of infrastructure that advances the industry's energy transition.
