Green Marine-certified participant CSL and its partnering customer Adbri celebrated naming the world’s first battery-powered self-unloading bulk carrier on March 12th.
Owned and operated by CSL, the Australian-crewed MV Yampu is a purpose-built limestone carrier to support Adbri’s operations along the Australian coast. It represents a new generation of specialized ships designed to reinforce Adbri’s supply chain while improving operational efficiency and environmental performance.
The MV Yampu draws its name from the Narungga and Kaurna languages of South Australia for dolphins – a marine mammal known for its intelligence and strong sense of community. It embodies CSL and Adbri’s longstanding and expanding relationship, along with their shared commitment to efficient and sustainable coastal shipping.
Built at the Jiangjiang Nanyang Shipyard in China, the vessel features a high‑efficiency design that integrates battery capability, making it a breakthrough in self‑unloading bulk logistics. It replaces the MV Accolade II, a long‑serving vessel in Adbri’s supply chain.
