CSL adopts solar power on the MV Nukumi

Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), a Green Marine certified participant, has achieved a Canadian first with the MV Nukumi becoming the first self-unloading bulk carrier to be equipped with solar panels in the country.

With Quebec government support, CSL is leading the innovative project to assess solar energy integration on vessels operating in the unique conditions of the St. Lawrence River.

The project is being done over three years in collaboration with Green Marine partner Innovation Maritime, the Université du Québec à Rimouski, Polytechnique Montréal, and Nergica to evaluate the performance of solar panels during harsh winters, ice accumulation and other actual conditions.
