Canada’s Ocean Supercluster announces its largest project to date

February 10, 2022

Canada’s Ocean Supercluster has announced a $65-million Clean Ocean Advanced Biofuels Project. Ontario-based Valent will work with a pan-Canadian team to produce Canada’s first renewable diesel from abundantly available agricultural and forestry by-products in the project.

The project will help address the maritime industry’s need for a range of environmentally sustainable, low greenhouse-gas emitting and low-sulphur fuels at competitive prices while complying with current and future regulations by introducing a low-carbon biofuel.

With its financial support and extensive network of collaborators, the Ocean Supercluster is fostering an accelerated collaborative pathway to establish a renewable fuels value chain for marine transport. Valent Low Carbon Technologies will work with partners FORGE Hydrocarbons, Mara Renewables, Clearwater, Katal Energy, Horizon Maritime (a Green Marine participant), as well as Sustainable Development Technology Canada to produce maritime fuel and solvents. The Ocean Supercluster will provide nearly $5.7 million of the $65 million project, with the balance coming from the project’s industry and government partners.
