The Maritime Institute of Quebec Foundation (IMQ) launched its first-ever major fundraising campaign in its history on June 13, 2019, as part of its 75th anniversary. More than $900,000 of its overall $2.5 million goal was raised at last check in late June.
Given the ongoing shortage of marine workers, the campaign was essential to ensure IMQ’s development to meet specialized training needs. The IMQ has established four key projects that require financial support to achieve within the next five years:
PROJECT 1: A fund to establish a school and community environment with a maritime flavour.
PROJECT 2: A scholarship fund that recognizes students working towards excellence.
PROJECT 3: A fund that recognizes exceptional maritime careers.
PROJECT 4: An innovation fund that recognizes research and development as a path to continual education and skills development.
The fundraising campaign is being co-chaired by Manon Lavoie, Océan’s general manager for Marine Construction and Repair, and Maryse Paré, Océan’s assistant director for Customer Service. Initial donations were made by IMQ’s members, including Groupe Desgagnés ($300,000), the entire pilotage community ($300,000), the CSL Group ($100,000), Groupe Océan ($100,000), and donations ranging from $5,000 to $35,000 from the St. Lawrence Shipoperators, Énergir, Maritime Innovation, Maritime Magazine, Sodes, EIM Trend, as well as IMQ’s internal community.
