On November 4th, seven members of the Port of Belledune staff took part in the Harbourview Boulevard shoreline cleanup in Bathurst, New Brunswick. It’s the first time the port has engaged in a shoreline cleanup activity. Within a few hours, the small team succeeded in gathering more than 56 kilograms (125 pounds) of litter that included coffee cups and lids, plastic bags, and cigarette butts. A few odd finds too large for garbage bags were also removed from the waterfront. They included a medium-sized suitcase, a truck bed’s entire plastic lining, tire rubber, and a seat cushion. The Belledune Port Authority now plans to organize a yearly cleanup initiative.
