With the Quebec government’s approval, the Société du parc industriel et portuaire de Bécancour (SPIPB) has placed sustainable development at the heart of its strategic plan for the next three years. By selecting projects that emphasize decarbonization and green technologies, the park aims to make long-term choices that will stay relevant for many years to come.
Rather than merely selling land, the SPIPB is committed to identifying projects that meet sustainability criteria and can make a meaningful difference to the community and environment. Over the past two years, approximately 80 proposals have been submitted, with 80% focused on green objectives. The park’s management is also focusing on some projects outside the usual scope because they are considered essential to ecological transition.
The projects are being selected in partnership with Quebec’s Ministry of Economy, Innovation, and Energy, as well as with Investissement Québec, and must include an environmental monitoring program. This monitoring will measure atmospheric contaminants to assess the cumulative impact of activities across the park area while each facility remains responsible for its own emissions.
