To filter stormwater naturally, AMPORTS is integrating floating wetlands into its stormwater retention ponds in Baltimore. The installations are designed to capture pollutants before they reach the Chesapeake Bay.
The wetlands increase the volume of water filtered by plant root systems that absorb nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. They also trap sediments and other suspended pollutants, improving overall water quality and supporting aquatic ecosystems. The natural filtration process also helps to prevent harmful algal blooms and encourages biodiversity, creating a more balanced and sustainable aquatic environment.
AMPORTS’ initiative reflects its commitment to combining operational performance with environmental stewardship in alignment with the Green Marine environmental certification program and its own sustainability goals.
