Ocean Group has announced it is switching to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to fuel its port towing operations in British Columbia. Made from vegetable oils, waste oils and animal residues, HVO is a renewable diesel that reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by 80% when compared to fossil fuels.
Since 2023, Ocean Group has been testing HVO at its Delta Port and Fraser River sites with plans to make a full transition by the end of this year. This move aligns with the company’s environmental goals and supports its 2023 Collaboration Agreement with Musqueam Capital Corp., which aims to promote more sustainable marine navigation within the Musqueam territory.
