The Algoma Central Corporation recently took delivery of its fifth Equinox Class gearless dry-bulk carrier. The Captain Henry Jackman will be the most efficient vessel in Algoma’s domestic fleet when it arrives from the Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding Company in China in mid-April and begins trading on the Great Lakes this summer.
Its “Equinox 3.0” design further improves on the optimized fuel efficiencies and operational performance of the previous nine vessels acquired by Algoma in this class to significantly enhance the fleet’s environmental performance.
The new vessel’s innovations include lighter weight aluminum hatch covers and an improved twin rudder design that increases the vessel’s displacement so that more cargo can be transported without additional vessel power.
Like all the Equinox Class, the Captain Henry Jackson has a closed-loop exhaust gas scrubbing system.
