A portal to “see” noise at the Port of Vancouver

For over five years, Green Marine partner Seti Media has been working with the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority on the port’s noise monitoring program.

Seti Media supplies and installs real-time sound and weather monitoring equipment (11 stations in total) to capture real-time noise and weather data. Seti Media installed and calibrated the equipment and is maintaining it. The public web portal allows the public to view real-time noise data, meeting Green Marine’s Level 4 and 5 criteria for transparent dissemination of environmental data.

Port managers have access to advanced analysis tools, including an automated sound recognition system powered by artificial intelligence. This allows for a detailed noise profile of each station and the identification of major nuisances and their evolution over time.
