The time has come for participants to assess their environmental performance for 2017, Green Marine’s 10th evaluation year. Self-evaluation summary reports are due March 15, 2018. The 2017 self-evaluation guides are now posted on line. They help participants to benchmark their environmental performance against Green Marine’s criteria for 12 distinct performance indicators – some applicable to ports, terminals and shipyards, and others to ship owners. Once evaluations are completed, the participants that are required to have their 2017 results independently verified will have until the May 4, 2018 to do so.
The 2017 criteria features several changes, including the addition of indicators regarding underwater noise (two separate indicators – one for ship owners, and one for saltwater ports) and the tightening of several criteria for indicators related to air quality and environmental leadership respectively. Reporting is optional for the new underwater noise indicators for 2017, as it is always the case when a new issue is added to the environmental program.
