On June 3rd, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority announced the recipients of its Blue Circle Awards, which recognize environmental leadership demonstrated by Port of Vancouver tenants, marine operators, shipping and cruise lines.
Ten Green Marine participants stood out this year as recipients in the EcoAction Program category. Congratulations to BC Ferries, SAAM Towage, Seaspan Marine Transportation, North Arm Transportation, Tymac Launch Service, DP World Vancouver, GCT Global Container Terminals, Neptune Terminals, Seaspan Shipyards and SSA Marine Canada – Lynnterm for their environmental leadership!
This year's highlights included SSA Lynnterm's first Blue Circle Award, while BC Ferries, SAAM Towage, and Seaspan ULC extended their impressive streak, earning the award every year since 2017. A special mention was also given to SAAM Towage Canada for operating two electric tugs at the Port of Vancouver –a notable achievement, considering only about 10 of these vessels are in operation worldwide.
Since 2007, the EcoAction program has recognized various fuel, technology and environmental management options that earn ship owners reduced rates on port dues. The environmental performance of certified Green Marine participants for reducing greenhouse gases and underwater noise qualifies ship owners for the program, thus directly translating into concrete operational benefits.
