Any association linked to the maritime industry that becomes a Green Marine member endorses the environmental certification program’s main objectives as well as the guiding principles that each participant pledges to respect in terms of environmental matters.

Green Marine is a voluntary environmental initiative whose mission is to reduce the maritime industry’s environmental footprint and pollution risks, to go beyond regulatory requirements, and to establish a dynamic of continual improvement in terms of the industry’s environmental performance.

Any company that joins Green Marine environmental certification program agrees to respect the guiding principles by applying them in its operational and commercial practices:

• To demonstrate corporate leadership in seeking better environmental practices based on a sustainable development approach
• To conduct its activities responsibly to minimize environmental impacts
• To aim for continual improvement of its environmental performance
• To develop and promote voluntary protection measures
• To integrate sustainable development practices that are technically and economically feasible
• To collaborate with governments and community groups in implementing an environmental agenda.

Green Marine recognizes the significant contributions that associations make to the collective effort to not only continue but expand the reach and scope of this voluntary challenging environmental initiative by the maritime industry and therefore always seeks to:

• Give recognition and visibility to the association members
• Involve associations in several aspects of the environmental certification program’s development.
