The Port of Montreal is recognized for its sustainable development initiatives

One of Green Marine’s founding members, the Port of Montreal received the Marine Environment Protection Award for 2018 in the port category from the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA). The award was presented at the awards dinner October 25 in New York City.

The Port of Montreal was recognized for several recent sustainable development initiatives, particularly:

  • Trucking PORTal: a new web and mobile application designed to streamline truck traffic at terminals, reducing wait times and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Shore power: an electrical power supply system at the Grand Quay Cruise Terminal and power supply stations for vessels that winter at the port to provide them with cleaner energy during their stay.
  • A liquefied natural gas solution: an LNG supply system for ship owners to be able the use a cleaner fuel.

Ocean Guardian also rewarded

Total Marine Solutions, a Green Marine partner, also received one of NAMEPA’s Environment Awards for its Ocean Guardian tool. TMS’ president, Alexandra Anagnostis-Irons: « Collaboration is the key to protecting our marine environments. We built Ocean Guardian to be a tool for collaboration and information sharing, for the benefit of everyone in the industry and our oceans.”
