Five-year action plan launched for the port of Bécancour

February 29, 2016

The administration for the port and associated industrial park in Bécancour – la Société du parc industriel et portuaire de Bécancour (SPIPB) – has established a 2015-2020 sustainable development action plan for this sole port under provincial government jurisdiction within Quebec. The plan calls for 10 key actions that include:

  • reducing the environmental impact of the port’s light vehicle fleet
  • improving energy efficiency
  • reducing the infrastructure’s carbon footprint
  • adopting an environmental policy for the management of port operations
  • establishing an air-quality measurement strategy for equipment

Building on results achieved thus far in terms of sustainable development, the SPIPB will next address two key areas: planning and public consultation/participation. SPIPB is aiming to set up a reference framework for public consultations during the course of the current action plan.
