Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor

The Ports of Indiana – Burns Harbor, founded in 1970, is one of three ports that are operated on Lake Michigan and the Ohio River by the Ports of Indiana, a statewide port authority. The Ports of Indiana – Burns Harbor is located in Portage, IN, on the south shore of Lake Michigan, just 18 nautical miles from Chicago. The port handles international ships via the Great Lakes connection to the Atlantic Ocean, and barges via inland river links to 38 states and the Gulf of Mexico.
