Launched in spring 2020, Green Marine Europe will label its first ship owners in the fall of 2020. The application is open to ship owners committed to the environment in a process of continuous improvement. They were able to participate in the creation and development of the program in Europe. For the first year, the membership is being offered free of charge to ship owners that wish to obtain the label
The Green Marine Europe environmental program is aimed at all types of shipowners, whether they are cargo ships (bulk carriers, self-unloading ships, container ships, oil tankers), passenger ships, scientific exploration vessels, tugs or barges.
Candidates are European ship owners.

Green Marine Europe’s candidates are committed to continuously reducing their environmental footprint. Each year, they benchmark their environmental performance through Green Marine Europe environmental program’s detailed framework. Green Marine Europe labelling process is rigorous and transparent. Fees for ship owners vary according to the company’s type and scope of activity.

Funded by the European Life program, the Green Marine Europe label is coordinated by the NGO Surfrider Foundation Europe, which brings its expertise, its network and its energy to the development of the program in Europe.
It also benefits from the financial and expert support of the ministry in charge of the environment, the ADEME, and the Macif.
The program is also supported within its advisory committee by ship owners, various other NGOs specialized in maritime transport in Europe, port stakeholders, shipyards, public organizations, maritime transport experts, shippers and shipper federations, etc.
Professional associations, NGOs, companies, territories, ports, shipyards interested in the program and wishing to support or associate themselves with it are strongly invited to make themselves known to the Green Marine Europe team.
