Oceanex launches Canada’s largest con/ro ship

The largest Canadian-flagged container/roll-on roll-off ship was launched by Oceanex in Flensburg, Germany, on May 31st. The Oceanex Connaigra will set new standards for innovation, flexibility, and environmental protection. Oceanex has placed the highest value on environmental performance for this new-build. Because of its optimal lines, the new ship will use 30% less fuel than vessels of comparable size, thereby reducing C02 emissions by about 20,000 tonnes per year. With an innovative waste-gas de-sulphurisation system, the Oceanex Connaigra already meets stricter environmental regulations that are due to take effect in 2015. The Connaigra is expected to arrive for duty in Newfoundland in the fall of 2013.
